Lauren is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Perinatal Mental Health specialist in the state of New York. Lauren earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from American University, and Master’s of Science in Advanced Clinical Practice from Columbia University. Lauren holds certifications in Complicated and Prolonged Grief from Columbia University as well as a Perinatal Mental Health certification from Postpartum Support International. Lauren currently has limited availability on her caseload, and exclusively works with women who have survived birth trauma, pregnancy loss, infant loss, stillbirth, NICU stays, and/or are experiencing postpartum depression, postpartum PTSD, postpartum OCD or postpartum anxiety.

Lauren is a mother who has survived birth trauma and a NICU stay herself and brings both a professional and personal lens to her therapy sessions. Lauren is nurturing and warm and is passionate about providing space where your goals and feelings are held with respect and care. Lauren utilizes the most evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Prolonged Grief Disorder treatment, Perinatal Mental Health frameworks and Trauma-Focused CBT, to help you build survive this unthinkable moment in your life. If you take away anything from your sessions with Lauren, she hopes it will be that life is precious, and whatever is thrown at us, we can learn to react, manage, and ultimately make deep meaning from.

Nicole Alston, LMSW

Psychotherapist, North Star Wellness & Therapy P.C

Stillbirth and infant loss specialist

Nicole is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in New York state specializing in perinatal loss, miscarriage, TFMR, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, infant loss, and grief. Nicole has spoken to both national and international audiences on providing comprehensive psychosocial support for families who are grieving the death of a baby. Since 2008, she has worked in various capacities at The Center for Prolonged Grief at Columbia University and currently serves as Senior Trainer.

Clinically, Nicole is passionate about supporting families through pregnancy loss, pediatric end-of-life care, and leading support groups for those navigating the death of their baby, who don’t know where to turn next or how to begin to make sense of what they have lost and how they can continue living. Nicole brings both a personal and professional lens to this work and sits on the Board of Directors for the International Stillbirth Alliance.

Nicole holds a Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and was among the first Fellows of the Social Work Futures Lab — a Portland State University initiative funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Currently, while not supporting clients at North Star Wellness & Therapy P.C, Nicole is pursuing her doctorate in medical humanities.
